Capture The Moment!
It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon in Paris the city of lights and Estelle has just arrived for her 2-week summer vacation from Accra, Ghana with enthusiasm to walk around the city, take in all the amazing sights she’s read about, and seen superficially on the Internet.
Most importantly on this trip, she looks forward to taking as many pictures as possible so she can share and show her family and colleagues back at home weeks after she’s come back from this particular trip, as this is her very first summer vacation and visit to Europe! Knowing the city of lights is alive every single hour of the day, she’s unbothered by the butterflies in her stomach nudging her to dash off to one of the (prominent monuments) closest to the airport to start her tour and photo fest. So she gives herself the excuse to first settle into her room, find something to eat, communicate with her family and friends that she’s arrived safely, and relax a bit before she begins her city tour. She’s able to contain this excitement knowing she’d be in the city for 2-weeks and left to her, she’d rather be nocturnal in viewing the breath taking city sights, using her day to rather shop for clothing and try new food in the city. She’s found her way to her hotel room, settled in, and called her family via FaceTime to show she’s arrived safely and settled into her room, she’s also taken the time to quickly make an order from the hotel’s menu choosing one of the French meals that the hotel freely gives to its first-time visitors while she’s soaked herself in the sauna, feeling refreshed after a 30 minutes shower, she walks back into the room to her meal and an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower from her bedroom window. She’s blown away and inspired by the view to begin her tour that very night, at least for an hour or two before she goes to bed.
A few hours later, Estelle is only too excited to run into the streets and walk her way to the Eiffel Tower from her hotel as the tower stands prominently and beckons to her in the distance. It's 8:30 pm Paris time, she's alone but not scared especially seeing other tourists like her walk around singly and in pairs, she's still in awe of the city of lights and the sensations her butterflies fill her with as she walks towards ticking one adventure off her bucket list of adventures and activities in Europe. It's a ten-minute walk from her hotel and she's blown away standing next to the Eiffel Tower, she'd seen this many times on the internet and she thought it was beautiful, but standing right next to it was breathtaking magnificence! She was lost in awe and couldn't move her eyes for the first 5-minutes as she was stunned into silence and reverence for one of the wonders of the world. After this short time, she regained her poise and burst out laughing, giggling, and screaming, totally lost on other tourists and passers-by, this was one of her dreams and she was standing next to it in the flesh. After this wave, what hit her next was how to capture this moment, oooh how she'd like to take pictures from certain angles to cover the height, length, and certain poses she'd intend to shoot here, the only problem being that she was alone and the best she could take was selfies even with a selfie stick on her, a bit saddening, but she had an idea - give the phone to a tourist to capture her enjoying this moment, here and now.She looked through the crowd of people milling around her and she picked out one person she believed was a tourist too, to help her take memorable photos of this historic moment. She approached the tall and lanky man she had picked out and politely asked him to help her take a few photos, that she was going to tip him to show appreciation for the effort. She was so excited, she'd do anything to perfectly capture this moment without any disruption. The guy asked for her device which she willingly gave to him and walked back to the base of the tower to strike one of her poses, only that by the time she turned with her very infectious smile, the guy had vanished into thin air.She was confused, a bit dazed, and tried to look again, but she couldn't find a trace of the man, it was as if he had suddenly run many miles away. She suddenly felt cold, her head began to spin from the revelation that someone random had stolen her phone that she willingly handed for a shoot. This was heartbreaking in one word and a bad way to start a 2-weeks vacation in the city of lights, especially for a device she just purchased for this vacation. She couldn't do anything but walk back to her hotel room, lie in her bed, and shed a few tears.
